Our God Answers Prayer
1 Chronicles 4:9-10, "And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
Today's passage is commonly known as "The Prayer of Jabez." A small book has been written concerning the specific content of this prayer, but I want to simply focus on the last statement in verse 10, "And God granted him that which he requested." I hope we are all convinced of the fact that God answers prayer. 1 John 5:14 states, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us." Psalm 65:2, "O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come."
One of our greatest needs is to have such a conviction about our need to pray daily, that the very first thing we do each morning is go to the LORD in earnest prayer. I was struck one morning as I was lying in bed by the examples of Jesus and prayer. Mark 1:35, "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he (Jesus) went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." If anyone is an example to us as to how we ought to pattern our lives it is the Lord Jesus. If He practiced early morning prayer, then certainly, I need to develop the discipline of praying early in the morning. Also, in Matthew 14:23, we find Jesus finding a solitary place for prayer in the evening, "And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone."
May we be a people who practice the privilege of prayer knowing that our God is One who ANSWERS PRAYER. He granted Jabez that which he requested. Will He not grant that which we request which is according to His will.
Enjoy your day, and don't forget to pray much and often!
