WHAT IS THE LORD TO YOU?
Psalm 27:1, "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
I have always been drawn to the life of King David. He opens his heart with a great amount of transparency. You and I can learn much from this man about how we view the LORD and how to develop a vibrant relationship with Him.
David initially speaks of the LORD as the source of his light and his salvation. As we behold the Father we see the express image of Him in the Son. John the Baptist proclaimed, "In him (in Jesus the incarnate Word) was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." (John 1:4-5) Darkness is emblematic of distress, perplexity, sin, and overwhelming sorrow. Darkness speaks of the unregenerate condition of man, while light is indicative of that which Jesus brings into the life of one who places their faith and trust in Him for the cleansing of sin. Do you know the light of God's salvation through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ? The Bible speaks clearly and with authority that we may know that we have eternal life (See 1 John 5:11-13). Christ of the one whom we should fear in Matthew "Fear him that is able to destroy both body and soul in hell."
Next, David speaks of the LORD as the strength of his life. Many look elsewhere to find strength to navigate through life. God is "all powerful" or omnipotent. The Lord is the One Who supports us by His strong arm. He protects us from the desires of the enemy to destroy us. Psalm 18:2 perfectly conveys what God is to you and me, "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God,my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."
Nothing is lacking in the life of the believer, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1) And don't forget He also is your light, your salvation, and your strength....
Have a great day!
